Government makes announcements on smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms

The DLUHC has announced that smoke alarms must be fitted in all rented accommodation within the regulated housing sector.

The announcement also confirmed that carbon monoxide alarms must be fitted in all rented properties with gas boilers or fires.

The new rules will be implemented by the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015 and the statutory guidance (Approved Document J) supporting Part J of the Building Regulations.
