Government launches consultation – Building a Safer Future: Proposals for Reform of the Building Safety Regulatory System
Following the Government’s acceptance of the proposals contained in the Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety (the “Hackitt Review”), MHCLG has issued a consultation which sets out how they intend to take forward the Hackitt Review recommendations in terms of legislative reform.
The Government has stated that ‘the consultation sets out their plans for moving:
– from a passive system, centred around compliance with building regulations;
– to a proactive one, where developers and building owners take responsibility.’
They have also stated that they ‘want to empower residents with a stronger voice and put clear responsibility and accountability at the heart of a more effective system’.
Full details on the consultation can be located here:

A shorter 8 week timetable has been applied to this consultation.
